Reversed-phase HPLC separation of enterobactin and its 2,3-dihydroxybenzoylserine derivatives was used for a comparative analysis of mutants of Escherichia coli, defective in the regulation of enterobactin biosynthesis (fur), enterobactin transport (fepA) and enterobactin esterase (fes).
