The rfaD gene of Escherichia coli encodes ADP-L-glycero-D-mannoheptose-6- epimerase, an enzyme required for the biosynthesis of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) precursor ADP-L-glycero-D- mannoheptose, associated with production of the core oligosaccharide.
