Free fatty acids are the major source of fuel for mammals, and hormone sensitive lipase (LIPE) plays a critical role in lipid metabolism by mobilizing free fatty acids from stored triglycerides. We have identified and sequenced a partial cDNA for LIPE. Cosmids were identified by hybridization and mapped to 19q13.1-->q13.2 by FISH.
