We have used conventional whole-cell electrophysiological recording techniques to measure the level of expression of tetrodotoxin-sensitive (TTX-S) and tetrodotoxin-resistant (TTX-R) sodium currents in the capsaicin-sensitive and capsaicin-insensitive subpopulations of dorsal root ganglion neurons.
