BACKGROUND: Anticoagulation is standard treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE) but increases the risk of bleeding. Anti-inflammatory treatment has been shown to be effective in thrombosis. However, research on the potential of anti-inflammatory targets and the interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) pathway for VTE is lacking.
