Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), which emerge from active tumors, represent an early step toward metastasis and are associated with poor prognosis. CTCs of carcinoma origin are believed to express EpCAM and cytokeratins (CKs), common epithelial markers that are frequently used to identify them....
