BACKGROUND: Fluoropyrimidine drugs are widely used in chemotherapy to treat solid tumors. However, severe toxicity has been reported in 10% to 40% of patients. The DPYD gene encodes the rate-limiting enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase responsible for fluoropyrimidine catabolism.
