Nucleotide sequences for some regions of the hemagglutinin (HA) gene of influenza virus A/Leningrad/385/80 (H3N2) were analyzed. A double-stranded complementary DNA was synthesized on the influenza genome RNA in the presence of synthetic oligodeoxyribonucleotides A GCAAAAGCAGG and A GTAGAAACAAG and inserted into the Pst I-site of the pBR322 plasmid through G-C-tailing.
