Most people with von Willebrand disease (VWD) have a partial quantitative deficiency of plasma von Willebrand factor (VWF) or type 1 VWD. In contrast to type 2 and type 3 VWD, laboratory assays will not always establish the diagnosis in type 1 VWD.
