Abstract CHKB encodes one of two mammalian choline kinase enzymes that catalyze the first step in the synthesis of the membrane phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. In humans and mice, inactivation of the CHKB gene ( Chkb in mice) causes a recessive rostral-to-caudal muscular dystrophy.
