Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is the only readily identifiable monogenic cause of COPD. To date the only condition-specific treatment for AATD-associated COPD is weekly administration of intravenous plasma-purified human alpha-1 antitrypsin (IV-AAT).
