The accumulation of glycerol is essential for yeast viability upon hyperosmotic stress. In this study, the STL1 homolog KmSTL1, encoding a putative glycerol transporter contributing to cell osmo-tolerance, was identified in Kluyveromyces marxianus NBRC1777.
