INTRODUCTION: Polycythemia vera (PV), a Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasm, is characterized by panmyelosis, pancytosis, and a JAK2 mutation. Patients are at increased risk of thrombohemorrhagic events, and progression to myelofibrosis or acute leukemia.
