Herpesvirus nucleocapsids leave the nucleus by a vesicle-mediated translocation mediated by the viral nuclear egress complex (NEC). The NEC is composed of two conserved viral proteins, designated pUL34 and pUL31 in the alphaherpesvirus pseudorabies virus (PrV).
