Mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) typically contain 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a single control region (CR). Flatfish mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) from three different genera in Bothidae (bothids) contain double CRs that evolved in a concerted manner.
