During an extensive survey of marine fungi in coastal marine environments from Portugal, a collection of Penicillium isolates were obtained from sea water, macroalgae and driftwood. Sixteen distinct Penicillium species were identified with Penicillium terrigenum and Penicillium brevicompactum being the most frequent.
