Rosai-Dorfman disease is a histiocytic disorder with a poorly defined pathogenesis. Recent molecular studies have revealed recurrent mutations involving genes in the MAPK/ERK pathway in Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Erdheim-Chester disease.
