In polyploid species, altering a trait by random mutagenesis is highly inefficient due to gene redundancy. We have stably transformed tetraploid oilseed rape (Brassica napus) with a CRISPR-Cas9 construct targeting two ALCATRAZ (ALC) homoeologs.
