Fluconazole resistance among clinical Candida parapsilosis isolates is an emerging problem in many countries, including Kuwait. Resistance to fluconazole is mediated by amino acid substitutions in ERG11 and/or by overexpression of efflux pumps MDR1 and CDR1.
