Abstract excerpt
Mitophagy is a selective form of macro-autophagy in which mitochondria are specifically targeted for autophagic degradation. Mitophagy plays an important role in cellular homeostasis by eliminating dysfunctional mitochondria and reducing mitochondrial mass as an adaptive response to stress.
