Pet is a cytotoxic autotransporter protein secreted by the pathogenic enteroaggregative Escherichia coli strain 042. Expression of Pet is co-dependent on two global transcription regulators: CRP (cyclic AMP receptor protein) and Fis (factor for inversion stimulation).
