The Niemann-Pick-type C1 (Npc1) protein mobilizes LDL-derived cholesterol from lysosomes. Npc1 deficiency disease is a panethnic autosomal recessive disorder of intracellular cholesterol trafficking, leading to accumulation of cholesterol in endosomes/lysosomes.
