The tissue derivation of mucinous ovarian carcinoma remains a mystery; however, rare tumors are associated with mature teratoma. Two decades ago, studies of chromosomal heteromorphisms and DNA polymorphisms proved that ovarian teratomas arise during female gametogenesis.
