BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (NP) and allergic rhinitis (AR) is characterized by local Th2 inflammation and up-regulation of IgE; however, IgE in NP is 'polyclonal' and allergen specific, whereas IgE in AR is 'oligoclonal' and allergen specific.
