We have determined the organization of the chicken tropomyosin 1 gene by sequencing the cloned genomic DNA. The single-copy gene spans approximately 11,000 bases and includes 12 exons. Comparison of cDNA and genomic sequences demonstrates that three tissue-specific tropomyosins are encoded by the gene: a 284 amino acid skeletal muscle beta-tropomyosin, a 284 amino acid smooth muscle tropomyosin, and a 248 amino...
