BACKGROUND: Gaucher disease is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by glucocerebrosidase gene mutations. Accumulating evidence from several Parkinson's disease cohorts of varying ethnicities suggests that glucocerebrosidase mutations even in the heterozygous state (carriers) may be a susceptibility factor for Parkinson's.
