Uromodulin (UMOD) is a glycoprotein expressed on the luminal surface of the apical membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells forming the thick ascending limb of Henle. Here, UMOD forms filamentous structures probably ensuring water impermeability and the countercurrent gradient.
