The Arabidopsis genome encodes one potential isopropylmalate isomerase (IPMI) large subunit and three potential IPMI small subunits, which in bacteria and archaea form heterodimers to catalyze the isomerization of 2-isopropylmalate to 3-isopropylmalate in leucine biosynthesis.
