IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are potent gastric acid inhibitors. Therapies with a PPI and antibiotics are used to cure Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, which is closely related to many gastrointestinal diseases.
