A system for genotyping Saccharomyces cerevisiae is described based on a multiplex of ten microsatellite loci and the MAT locus. A database of genotypes has been developed for 246 yeast strains, including a large set of commercial wine yeasts, as well as 35 sequenced natural isolates currently being sequenced.
