Oxidant stress is critically involved in various liver diseases. Superoxide formation causes c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK)- and caspase-dependent apoptosis in cultured hepatocytes. To verify these findings in vivo, male Fisher rats were treated with diquat and menadione.
