In members of the family Rhizobiaceae, many phenolic compounds are degraded by the protocatechuate branch of the beta-ketoadipate pathway. In this paper we describe a novel pattern of induction of protocatechuate (pca) genes in Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar trifolii.
