The rat prostate is dependent on androgen for growth and differentiation. In an effort to find novel genes involved in androgen-induced growth of the rat prostate, we carried out PCR-based subtractive hybridization and identified several factors that were transiently up-regulated after androgen stimulation in castrated rat prostate.
