In a comparative study of the sequences of the 3-kb regions of DNA spanning the replication terminus, terC, of Bacillus subtilis strains 168 and W23, it was found that the latter contained an insertion of a large open reading frame (ORF405) whose translated protein product is a member of the cytochrome P-450 family.
