The blood cells of ascidians accumulate extremely high levels of the transition metal vanadium. We previously isolated four vanadium-binding proteins (Vanabins 1-4) and a homologous protein (VanabinP) from the vanadium-rich ascidian Ascidia sydneiensis samea.
