The mechanism of gene regulation by steroids in bacteria is still a mystery. We use steroid-inducible 3alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase/carbonyl reductase (3alpha-HSD/CR) as a reporter system to study steroid signaling in Comamonas testosteroni.
