CCL5/RANTES, a member of the C-C chemokine family, is a potent eosinophil, monocyte, basophile and lymphocyte chemo-attractant at the site of inflammation. Recent studies revealed that a functional mutation at the -403 position in the promoter may have significance for atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, sarcoidosis, rheumatoid arthritis and HIV infection, and others.
