OBJECTIVE: Bacterial vaginosis is the most common vaginal disorder worldwide. Certain lactobacilli produce H2O2 and lactic acid, which normally suppress growth of anaerobes; however, in bacterial vaginosis, Gardnerella vaginalis and other anaerobes proliferate, and the number of lactobacilli decreases.
