BACKGROUND: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a hereditary disorder caused by NOTCH3 mutations, usually localized to exons 3 and 4, and characterized by recurrent subcortical infarctions, dementia and leukoencephalopathy.
