Here, we briefly review the molecular biology of the human eosinophil granule proteins, major basic protein (MBP), eosinophil peroxidase (EPO), eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN). The nucleotide sequence of MBP cDNA indicates that MBP is translated as a 25.2-kilodalton preproprotein; the mpb gene consists of 6 exons and 5 introns spanning 3.3 kilobases (kb). The...
