A group of 85 isolates of haloalkaliphilic obligately chemolithoautotrophic sulphur-oxidizing bacteria belonging to the genus Thioalkalivibrio were recently obtained from soda lakes in Mongolia, Kenya, California, Egypt and Siberia.
