Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection with lamivudine is effective and well-tolerated. However, discontinuation of the treatment is associated frequently with acute exacerbation of liver diseases. A patient suffering from acute liver failure after discontinuation of lamivudine treatment is described.
