Cholestatic syndromes are inborn or acquired disorders of bile formation. In recent years, several inherited cholestatic syndromes were characterized at the molecular level: progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (BRIC).
