In most bacteria acetate assimilation is accomplished via the glyoxylate pathway. Isocitrate lyase (ICL) and malate synthase (MS) are two key enzymes of this pathway, which results in the net generation of one molecule of succinyl-CoA from two acetyl-CoA molecules.
