BACKGROUND: Autosomal-dominant juvenile hyperuricemia, gouty arthritis, medullary cysts, and progressive renal insufficiency are features associated with familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy (FJHN), medullary cystic kidney disease type 1 (MCKD1) and type 2 (MCKD2).
