The primary infection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) may result in fatal infectious mononucleosis or hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) in 2 diseases; that is, X-linked lymphoproliferative disorder (XLP) and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
