We describe recJ mutants of Salmonella typhimurium. The recJ gene maps between sufD and serA (min 62) and is transcribed counterclockwise. Unlike recJ mutants of Escherichia coli, recJ strains of S. typhimurium are sensitive to irradiation with UV light.
