The Sanfilippo syndrome type B (mucopolysaccharidosis IIIB) is an autosomal recessive disorder due to mutations in the gene encoding NAGLU (alpha-N-acetylglucosaminidase), one of the enzymes required for the degradation of the GAG (glycosaminoglycan) heparan sulphate.
