Volepox virus (VPX) from skin lesions on a vole and a piñon mouse caught in California and raccoon poxvirus (RCN) from raccoons trapped in Maryland were examined to begin elucidating their relationship to other orthopoxviruses, most of which are not known to be indigenous to the Americas.
