In patients suffering from recurrent or chronic infections with encapsulated bacteria the humoral immune disorder of IgG subclass deficiencies is common (about 20%), yet insufficiently diagnosed because of the nonspecific symptomatology and the often unaffected levels of total immunoglobulin (Ig) isotypes.
